Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology (AYAO) Program
Surveillance and Survivorship Care
The Lurie Cancer Center’s providers will work together with your primary care physician, facilitating communication and continuity of care from treatment through survivorship.
Young adults have access to survivorship services offered within the Cancer Survivorship Institute, including specialized Survivorship Clinics such as the STAR Program (Survivors Taking Action and Responsibility), offering long-term follow-up care for AYA patients diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 21.
These clinics offer medical checkups that include a review of the patient’s medical history and a physical exam. Individualized follow-up care is focused on screening to monitor and manage recurrence, metastasis, and the late effects of treatment, along with overall health and well-being. Survivorship care plans detail future follow-up, suggestions for lifestyle modifications that can impact health, and strategies for addressing physical and emotional concerns.
