Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology (AYAO) Program

Psychosocial Services

The strain of being diagnosed and living with cancer can be overwhelming. The Supportive Oncology Program at the Lurie Cancer Center provides emotional and practical support for young adult patients and their families before, during and after cancer treatment. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists include psychologists, social workers, dietitians, nurse navigators, a coordinator of supportive oncology education, and others dedicated to helping AYA patients address their concerns and challenges, while treating each individual with empathy and respect.

Patients and their families have access to our team of social workers throughout the course of their care. Following consultation, referrals for other relevant supportive services may be provided. AYAO Program Director and clinical health psychologist, Stacy Sanford, PhD, is also a member of the Supportive Oncology team, providing consultations and ongoing psychotherapy services as appropriate.
