Cancer-Focused Research
Alexandra Psihogios, Ph.D. is a pediatric psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. Her research focuses on promoting disease self-management and medical adherence among adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer. Because she is passionate about the health of AYA, a population of digital experts, she is also passionate about digital health. With a funded K08 Award from the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Psihogios is developing and piloting a just-in-time adaptive intervention for AYA oral chemotherapy adherence (delivered via an engaging app). She and her team are using a micro-randomized trial design to optimize intervention and engagement components. Dr. Psihogios is also interested in overcoming digital health implementation challenges, such as declining user engagement and limited integration in real-world clinical settings. Prior to Northwestern, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and practicing psychologist at The Childrenâs Hospital of Philadelphia. There, she received the Distinguished Research Trainee Award from the Childrenâs Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute. Dr. Psihogios has also received grant funding from the American Cancer Society and Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation. She has published her work in journals such as JAMA Pediatrics, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Journal of Cancer Survivorship, and the Journal of Medical Internet Research. Dr. Psihogios also is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Society of Pediatric Psychology Digital Health Special Interest Group (American Psychological Association, Division 54).
