Cancer-Focused Research
Genome instability and mutation is one of the enabling characteristics of cancer. Epigenetic factor mutations, including MLL3/4-UTX-COMPASS are prevalent in human cancers and developmental diseases. Dr. Zhao's previous research revealed that malfunction of the key epigenetic enzymes leads to epigenetic state imbalance, gene expression alteration, and further metabolic rewiring. Dr. Zhao's current research focuses on seeking effective therapeutic approaches for these diseases based on molecular characterization, and employing strategies to restore epigenetic equilibrium, correct mutations, and target synthetic lethal pathways.
