Dr Lumati is a Hepatopancreatobiliary and Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncologist at Northwestern Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is affiliated wth Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, Institute for Public Health and Medicine, and the Robert Havey Institute for Global Health. She is actively involved in health services research within the context of global oncology with a focus on health care financing in Sub-Saharan Africa. She completed her medical school training at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine in the Program for Medical Education Health Equity and Masters in Public Health in Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. General surgery residencies at The University of California San Francisco and The University of Alabama and Complex Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.She is a current alumnus of the UC-GLOCAL Fogarty Fellowship of UCGHI consortium 2017-2018 and spent her research fellowship in Ghana evaluating the impact of the national health insurance scheme on out-of-pocket payments for surgical care. In the last five years she has also worked as a part-time surgical oncology consultant at Lakeshore Cancer Center in Lagos Nigeria. She is a commissioner for the Lancet Commission on Non-Communicable Diseases and Poverty Ghana and a reviewer for multiple journals of global health. She has won multiple awards including National Dean's List, San Diego Top 25 in their 20s, Award for leadership and excellence international student life amongst others. Her long term plans include improving access to cancer care in SSA by strengthening multidisciplinary care inclusive of surgery through health care financing.
