Bin Zhang Named Co-Leader of Tumor Environment and Metastasis Program
Bin Zhang, MD, PhD, a recognized expert in cancer immunology and immunotherapy research, has been named Co-Leader of the Tumor Environment and Metastasis Program (TEAM) at the Lurie Cancer Center, effective February, 2023.
Zhang is professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology and of Microbiology-Immunology. His laboratory functions as an integrated translational research program with the goal of designing and developing new immunotherapies and immunologic strategies for cancer treatment. His ongoing projects are focused on dissecting the molecular mechanisms used for tumor immune evasion based on the cutting-edge technical platforms.
The goal of the TEAM Program is to understand how interactions between tumor cells, immune cells, and components of the host stromal microenvironment impact tumor development and progression. As Co-Leader, Zhang will work together with Hidayatullah Munshi, MD, and Luisa Iruela-Arispe, PhD, to advance the translation of basic science discoveries from the TEAM Program into clinical practice.
“Bin is a superb scientist,” said Leonidas Platanias, MD, PhD, director of the Lurie Cancer Center. “His work is innovative and impactful and may open the door for new approaches in the immunotherapy of cancer.”
