Introducing the Associate Board of Lurie Cancer Center

LCC-AssociateBoard-121321-800.jpgA new generation of philanthropic leadership has been appointed to serve the mission and goals of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University (“Lurie Cancer Center”).

The newly established Associate Board of Lurie Cancer Center (“Associate Board”) will comprise a slate of young professionals dedicated to advancing cancer research, education, patient care, and community benefit. Members serving on the Associate Board will raise funds for innovative cancer research and host a signature fundraising event for Lurie Cancer Center on an annual basis. Scientific investigators from Lurie Cancer Center will have the opportunity to apply for the Associate Board Innovative Research Award, a philanthropic grant funded by the Associate Board, which will provide critical seed or bridge funding for basic, translational, or clinical cancer research studies. Grant recipients shall be known as the Associate Board Innovative Research Scholars.

Led by inaugural co-chairs Louise Arnott and Jamey Maniscalco, the Associate Board is a natural extension of the Friends of Lurie Cancer Center Advisory Board, which was created by Ann Lurie and a small group of philanthropists, volunteers, and other civic leaders shortly after the naming and dedication of Lurie Cancer Center. As the 30th anniversary of the naming of Lurie Cancer Center is commemorated this year, the Associate Board will serve as a bridge to the future, bringing in the next generation of philanthropists who share a common interest in the fight against cancer. The formation of the Associate Board also follows the recent announcement of Northwestern University’s plans to launch an ambitious campaign to raise $100 million in support of Lurie Cancer Center.

“The passion and enthusiasm shown by the membership of the Associate Board of Lurie Cancer Center are so inspiring,” said Leonidas Platanias, MD, PhD, director of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. “I look forward to working with Louise, Jamey, and all members of the Associate Board to advance cancer research that has the potential to bring new therapies and cures to patients.”
