Cancer-Focused Research:

Dr. Toft began his research career at Northwestern as a graduate student in Dr. Dan Linzer's laboratory studying the role of angiogenesis in tumor progression. As an endocrinology research fellow, Dr. Toft joined an interdisciplinary team of scientists at Northwestern led by Drs. Vincent Cryns and Samuel Stupp. Here his work has focussed on the design and testing of targeted pro-apoptotic nanotherapies based on a nanotechnology platform ("peptide amphiphiles") developed by the Stupp group in preclinical models of breast cancer. As a faculty member, he plans to pursue broader investigation into breast cancer tumorigenesis and metastasis in order to inform the development of novel therapies through continued collaboration with Cancer Center members.
