As a volunteer at the Lurie Cancer Center, your time and efforts make an important difference in the lives of patients and their families.
A variety of volunteer opportunities are available including:
The Lurie Cancer Center holds public education and survivorship programs for patients and caregivers throughout the year on our medical campus and in the community, as well as professional education programs for clinicians. Volunteers help with event set up, greeting guests, providing directions, assisting with check-in and registration. For most events, we ask volunteers to make a minimum time commitment of three hours.
Administrative SupportVolunteers provide additional support for short -term projects on an as-needed basis. Volunteers help with word processing, copying and assembling folders for meetings and events; tasks requiring focus and organization in an office setting.
Patient Care Ambassadors
Knowledgeable and warm volunteers welcome patients in the Lurie Cancer Center's outpatient Clinical Cancer Center on the 21st floor of Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Galter Pavilion and the Maggie Daley Center for Women's Cancer Care on the 4th floor of Prentice Women's Hospital.
Volunteer opportunities at both locations are available on weekdays only, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least six months of service, and must be 20 years of age or older. The Lurie Cancer Center provides compassionate care for adults with all cancer types, and offers a wide range of specialty clinics.
In addition to daily duties as assigned, responsibilities include:
- Assisting with directions
- Providing coffee and water
- Escorting patients to waiting areas
