Wayne Named Associate Director for Clinical Affairs at the Lurie Cancer Center
Jeffrey D. Wayne, MD, has been appointed Associate Director for Clinical Affairs at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University and Medical Director for Northwestern Medical Group (NMG) Oncology, positions he has served in interim since January. Dr. Wayne is also Chief of Melanoma and Soft Tissue Surgical Oncology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
The Associate Director for Clinical Affairs is appointed by and reports to the Director. In this role, Dr. Wayne will be responsible for ensuring that the Clinical Cancer Center facilities and programs are fully integrated with and support the mission of the Lurie Cancer Center. He will serve on the Executive Committee and cancer center Leadership Group, playing a critical role in establishing the strategic direction, policy and priorities of the Lurie Cancer Center.
“Jeff is a respected clinical and academic leader,” said Lurie Cancer Center Director, Leonidas Platanias, MD, PhD. “He will provide important leadership in the clinical operations of the Lurie Cancer Center and play a key role in our efforts to align the oncology programs across Northwestern Medicine.”
Dr. Wayne is Chair of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Committee on Cancer, where he is also Vice Chief of the medical staff. He sits on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Clinical Oncology, and is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Association for Academic Surgery, the Association for Surgical Education, and the American Cancer Society. He is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Sarcoma Panel, and has served on the NCCN Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) Task Force.
A five-time recipient of the Department of Surgery’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Wayne’s many awards and honors include the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award (twice awarded) and the Compassionate Care Award from the Woman’s Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Wayne's research is primarily focused on the multimodality treatment of melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma, and he has been a Principal Investigator on several surgical trials in these areas. He also has an interest in surgical outcomes, and has published numerous scientific reports on promoting quality cancer care.
