Thriving With Cancer / Celebrating Research
A year ago, Chuck Maniscalco would have described himself as an avid runner and the “healthiest 60-something person I knew.” Everything changed in October 2016 when Chuck was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. “Fortunately,” he says, “that is not the end of my story – just the beginning.”
Watch Dr. Leonidas Platanias and Chuck talk with Dina Bair about the Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Walk & 5K on WGN TV’s Midday News.
Today, Chuck is benefitting from precision medicine and the targeted treatment options offered through the Lung OncoSET, an extension of the Lurie Cancer Center OncoSET Program. “I am a walking, talking billboard for the value of cancer research,” he explains. “Because of a treatment that didn’t exist four years ago, I am alive, and more importantly, back in my life.”
Look for Chuck’s photo among the “Faces of Cancer” banners and cheer him on as he runs the 5K with his sons at the Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Walk & 5K on Sunday, June 4th.
