Being diagnosed with cancer is a major life event. People who are recovering from cancer will experience different levels of stress and emotional upset. Initially, worries about tests, treatments, hospital stays and medical bills are common and occasionally can seem overwhelming. Over time, people with cancer may also worry about keeping their jobs, caring for their families or managing daily activities. A social worker, professional counselor or member of the clergy can be helpful to patients who want to talk about their feelings and discuss their concerns. Friends and relatives can also be helpful and supportive. Talking with others who have been treated for cancer can also be a source of strength and hope. Managing Emotional Aspects |
