Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation Gala Raises Over $600,000 to Benefit Lurie Cancer Center

HCRF Gala

Eleni Bousis

More than 600 guests joined the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation (HCRF) on October 14 at the Hilton Chicago. Chaired by founder Eleni Bousis, HCRF’s Gala, “The Wings to Cure,” raised more than $600,000 to fund groundbreaking research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

Bousis thanked everyone present for their generous support, and described how the loss of a dear friend inspired her own efforts.  Lurie Cancer Center’s director, Leonidas Platanias, MD, PhD, spoke about his personal motivation, and thanked HCRF for creating “important opportunities to translate scientific discoveries into novel therapies, advanced technologies and promising clinical trials.”

Guests at the spectacular black-tie event enjoyed an elegant cocktail reception with live music from Sharing Notes, an organization that brings the healing power of music to Lurie Cancer Center’s patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, followed by dinner and dancing.

The evening’s emcee, WGN-TV anchor and medical reporter Dina Bair, shared her own experience as a cancer survivor and encouraged others to support Lurie Cancer Center’s physicians and scientists. “They have the fire in their bellies, the desire in their hearts and the brains in their heads. What they need is money in their hands to reach their goal!”

You can still help HCRF support our efforts. Please consider making a gift to the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation’s 2017 Gala to benefit the Lurie Cancer Center. Contact Rodrigo Leanos at rleanos@nm.org or 312.926.7393.
